I was planning to have some kind of theme or purpose to this post, but as I started to write it, I realized it was just a bunch of random rambling about my day, so I changed my mind and thought I would give you a look into what my day was like yesterday. It was like most of my days recently as Amy and I gear up for the Bod Pod grand opening, which means I was all over the place and multitasking like a champ. The future is so unclear right now, because we really don’t know what it will be like once we actually open, but we can only hope that business will be strong, and then we will just have to find new ways to balance all of our responsibilities. I am equal parts anxious, nervous and excited. This is a whole new chapter in my life, I sure hope it’s a good one!
My day started at 7am when I finally decided to get out of bed. I woke up around 6:30am, but used that half hour for my ‘me’ time (see this article for more info on my ‘me’ time). Once I was finally out of bed, I let the dogs out back to do their business, and then made them breakfast. I want to give a big shout out to my husband who walks Arrow for me every morning so I have more time to get stuff done. Ellie is 13 and her little legs just don’t work like they used to, so she just uses the backyard, but Arrow needs his walks, and I am so grateful to him for helping me out there.
You will see me talk about my dogs a lot…A LOT. They are my world, I love them like they are my children since I don’t have any. I plan to have a full article on each of them, so I hope you like dogs.
Ellie was really enjoying her time outside this morning, so my already late morning got a little later. Normally, Arrow gives me a hard time with breakfast, he would rather do anything than eat his food, even though I add green beans, carrots and even peas to it. Yes, I am a crazy dog mom, don’t judge. Today though, he was such a good boy and gobbled his food right up, success!
By this time it’s already 7:30am and I still needed to eat breakfast, respond to emails, ship a few items for my media business, change for the gym, and be out the door by 8:15am. Challenge accepted! I made a cup of coffee and warmed up a piece of my Veggie, Potato, Sausage Egg Casserole along with a piece of al fresco Chicken Apple Maple breakfast sausage, four strawberries sliced up, and about 1/4 of blueberries and chowed down at my desk. We recently got a Nespresso coffee maker that can do both espresso and coffee pods. I am still on the fence about it because I find a lot of their coffee too strong, and they have a fraction of the choices that Keurig has, however, our Keurig machine made everything taste burnt, so that was no good either. Point of that story is that the jury is still out on new coffee maker. I dropped two tablespoons of some Zint Collagen Hydrolysate into the coffee for some added protein and of course all the other awesome Collagen benefits. I highly recommend reading up on it, I have definitely noticed a difference since I started adding it to my diet.
I had my usual little helper, Arrow, in my chair with me while I ate, and by 8am I was finished eating, responded to my emails, and shipped my items. I cleaned my dishes, got ready for the gym and was out the door by 8:20am. Ok, so I was a little late, but not too bad, and I still made it to the gym before class started. Of course, I forgot I needed to get there early so that Amy and I could get our weekly measurements done and take pictures to send to the health coach we have been working with. Oops! It’s a good thing class started late, which gave us time to get that done before class started.
Today’s workout was DUT (Daily ultimate training), which is a weights and TRX class with some abs thrown in at the end. Coach No (Norine, but we call her No) had us all sweating and cursing her name by the time class ended. It was great! No pain, no gain right? It was pretty funny watching all of us trying to hold a plank at the end of class when all of our arms were shaking from the workout she had just put us through.
After class it was off to the grocery store, and of course I forgot to bring a protein shake so I ended up eating a chocolate dipped coconut Luna Protein bar while walking around Publix, and I picked up my new obsession B’More Organic SKYR smoothie, and drank half of it while shopping. I need to buy these by the case. One bottle is two servings and each serving of the Vanilla flavor I tried had 20g of protein, 0g fat and 6g of sugar. It basically tastes like you are drinking yogurt, it’s delicious and with only 6g of sugar that’s really good for yogurt. I am lactose intolerant, have been my entire life, but if I take a dairy pill before eating yogurt or cottage cheese, I seem to be fine, and this was no exception. I had no issues drinking this, and I actually drank the second half for a snack later that afternoon along with a hard boiled egg, and still had no issues. I am determined to hit my macros, and all that protein and no fat really helped.
After I got home from the grocery store and unpacked everything, I let the dogs out back, then headed to my office for some work, work, work, work, work (ugh, I hate that song, I don’t know why I even typed that). One of my duties with my media company is organizing group dinners when we host major events all over the country. So I spent a good part of the day calling around to restaurants near Auburn, AL trying to find a place that had a private room big enough for our group, had our date/time available, and was able to accommodate a certain budget. It’s tedious work, but it’s always nice when it’s over and everyone had a good time. I love that feeling.
On top of organizing the dinners, I also did my other daily tasks for that job, along with taking care of some paperwork stuff for the new business and wrote this article. I finished out my day feeding the dogs their dinner, and then making myself dinner, however I didn’t get started on cooking until after 6:30pm, and then had a meeting with my IT person at 8pm. I made a Chinese five spice pork tenderloin from a recipe I found on PaleOMG, and it was delicious! It was a little too salty for my liking, so I am going to make it again and mess with the ingredients a bit to try and get the salt down, but overall it was fantastic. I served it with a side of steamed green beans and a sweet potato. This was only my second time cooking with Chinese five spice, and it’s definitely an interesting flavor complex where a little goes a long way. After I mess with the recipe a bit, I will post up my version, but if you want to make it now you can find her recipe here, just be cautious with the salt.
It’s crazy long days like yesterday, where I am grateful that I am able to work from home so that I can balance all the the days needs, while still being able to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I was planning on doing some cooking/recipe testing yesterday, but there was just not enough time, so that will have to happen today….I hope.
So, there you have it, a day in the life of Morgan. It’s random and all over the place, which is a perfect depiction of me.
Have you ever tried the B’More Organic Smoothie’s? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts on them, especially the different flavors.
